Ground is being broken for the new Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Gunnison Field Office on Aug. 1, 2021, making it the first new building under construction at Gunnison Rising with a location in the Government Campus. The Gunnison Field Office will utilize the new location for staff offices, public visitation and on-site warehousing of equipment.

“The vision for the Government Campus is to establish a collection of outdoor-oriented entities that can take advantage of the recreational amenities adjacent to Tomichi Creek and the convenience and visibility of Highway 50,” says Ron Welborn, General Manager of Gunnison Rising.

Several sites and communities were considered before Gunnison and Gunnison Rising were selected. “Gunnison Rising’s Government Campus has all the benefits and all new infrastructure for a BLM field office to thrive: a highly visible location, easy access to U.S. Highway 50, likely future government agencies in close proximity, and the first project in a development that adds significant value and prestige to the beautiful city of Gunnison,” says Luke Simonich, general manager of Simco Ventures LM, LLC, which was awarded the new construction lease and is based in Littleton, Colorado. “We are honored to be a critical part of the groundbreaking of Gunnison Rising and are eager to see it develop around the BLM facility in the years to come.”

Infrastructure work at Gunnison Rising has commenced, and a residential construction start date is planned for spring 2022. In addition, a local retailer and a national retailer are looking at locating within the development on the south side of Highway 50.
