TRADITIONAL Design

Gunnison Rising and our team of talented partners are designing neighborhoods with traditional gridded block structure, sidewalks, street trees, buildings facing the street, and front porches—all the elements that support a strong sense of community.

WALKABLE & Connected

Gunnison Rising is creating safe, walkable and bikeable connections to downtown Gunnison, neighborhood businesses and meeting spaces utilizing a system of trails that runs throughout the neighborhoods, connecting all residents to parks and nature. There also is a whole host of local and regional amenities and attractions to tap into!

A VIBRANT Place

An exciting mix is planned for Gunnison Rising, including housing, community gathering places, hiking and biking trails, parks, creative spaces for local entrepreneurs, small neighborhood shops, a concert venue, a RV and glamping resort, and more.

Whether strolling with your family to an evening movie in the park, tackling Hartman Rocks on your bike or skis, or casting your fly rod on Tomichi Creek, Gunnison Rising is designed to maximize the outdoor lifestyle Gunnison has to offer. The plan brings nature to your front door with large parks, vista viewpoints and small pocket parks within a five-minute walk to every home.

Trails connect to the great outdoors that surround Gunnison Rising: the new Signal Peak trail system to the north, a future trail connection south to Hartman Rocks Recreation Area, and a possible Tomichi Creek State Park in the future, with endless fishing, hiking and cross-country skiing opportunities.

BROAD HOUSING Options

Gunnison’s historic neighborhoods serve as a model for new neighborhoods in Gunnison Rising because they have housing options for the entire community: families, singles, college students, and retirees. Walkable neighborhoods with a variety of residential options, including workforce housing, and quality design are a cornerstone of Gunnison Rising.

STRONG Partnerships

A project with strong partnerships between the public and private sectors makes it possible to brainstorm ideas, needs and solutions; share public infrastructure costs; and tap into infrastructure financing tools. Gunnison Valley Partners, City of Gunnison, Gunnison County and Western Colorado University have demonstrated an extraordinary level of commitment to build something truly special together.
